Out of State Students (Libra)
The Department of Housing and Residence Life (DHRL) staff and the LINK First-Year Experience Program staff have created a community for Out of State Students who can benefit from living together on campus during their first year at UCF (beginning fall semester). The Out of State Student Mentoring (OSSM) Program, pronounced "AWESOME", is a great way for incoming out of state students to make friends and adjust to UCF and the Orlando community. If you prefer to live in the OSSM Living-Learning Community, you will be living in the Hercules or Libra communities.
DHRL staff and OSSM staff will work together to provide activities, events, educational sessions, resources and services to assist Out of State Students with their transition to UCF. Some of these benefits include but are not limited to flexible check-in accommodations, welcome week activities, discounted off-campus trips to theme parks and other Orlando attractions (at least one trip per semester), campus tours, social events organized by mentors and resident assistants, and more!
The Department of Housing and Residence Life, through an area coordinator, graduate assistants and two resident assistants, oversee the Libra community and the OSSM Living Learning Community. The two resident assistants are out of state students who live on the floor serving as liaisons between the residents and the Department of Housing and Residence Life. The OSSM Living Learning Community residents will also have designated OSSM mentors and a first year advisor working with them throughout the year. Finally, students will have the unique opportunity to enroll in a reserved section of ENC 1101 (English Composition 1, a required general education course), ENC 1102 (English Composition 2, a required general education course), SLS 1501 (Strategies for Success), and additional Fall and Spring courses offered exclusively to OSSM residents.
Application Process
In order to live in the OSSM Learning Community, you must complete an online housing agreement and prepayment for housing on the Orlando Main Campus for Fall and Spring via myUCF.
Once you have completed the housing application, you will be able to enter the Living Learning Community application by navigating to Student Self Service > Housing > Living Learning in myUCF. Select the drop-down menu for OSSM Living Learning Community. Answer the 2 questions and electronically sign the OSSM agreement. Click the Submit button to complete your application.
It is important to note that once you complete the application for the OSSM Living Learning Community in myUCF, that will be considered your primary preference, above and beyond room and roommate preferences. If you are not placed in the OSSM Living Learning Community, we will then go back to your original preferences to determine your room assignment.
