Crime Prevention Safety Tips
- If something does not look right, feel right, or sound right - it needs to be reported (9-1-1). Try to get a good description of any suspicious persons and vehicles. Write down the license plate numbers. At night, walk with a friend (s), do not walk alone. Lock all doors and windows before going to sleep. Have emergency numbers on speed dial. Keep the old saying going "don't talk to strangers".
The OCSS Website is accessible to anyone: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Find a roommate, Find a new apartment, Sublease your apartment, Find out about campus events, Find Bus & Storage Information & more!!!
Good study habits are the key to a successful college career. Even if you were able to sail through high school without studying, you'll never be able to do it in college. Many times added stress is reduced by extra studying, avoiding "test anxiety." Develop your best strategies for studying. Everyone has their own ideas about which study habits work best for them.
Good Roommate, Good Experiences
Living with a roommate for the first time can be quite an overwhelming experience. If you are lucky, you might actually get along. For most of us, we usually end up with people that are far from that level. Fortunately, potential problems can be avoided by writing a "Roommate Agreement," where you and your roommate can all write down all possible expectations. This agreement can help you decide terms and conditions for your living space regarding privacy, noise, study times, overnight guests, pets, parties, entertaining, food, cleaning responsibilities, and other issues that might arise. Here are some of the most important issues that should be covered in the agreement:
Cleaning
Discuss how, when and what should be done in the kitchen,
bathroom, hallway, taking out garbage, doing dishes, using them
etc.
Privacy
Look out for each other but respect each other's privacy and avoid
asking personal questions. Set rules regarding overnight
guests. Inquire about a UCF "Party Smart" package (407)-823-0879.
Parties
Come to an agreement on how often parties could take place, how
many people, and how late they could run.
Shared Personal Belongings
Will there be any sharing? If so, what objects?
Bills
The best thing to do when deciding who will be responsible for what
bill is trying to have each put a bill in a different name. Responsibility
should be divided.
The best thing about having a roommate agreement on hand is that you can refer back to it when situations become testy. Remember that when you need help settling roommate problems you can contact UCF Dispute Resolution Services at (407) 823-3477.
