UCF Remembers: Five Years After Pulse


Events around UCF and Orlando to commemorate those lost in the Pulse shooting tragedy

In remembrance of the tragic event of the Pulse Nightclub shooting that took place five years ago, Orlando will be honoring and remembering those affected with several events coming up the next two weeks. 

UCF Events

Paint with Pride 

Monday, 6/7 at 11 AM-2 PM 

Location: Social Justice and Advocacy Lounge & Pride Commons 

Come out to SJA & Pride Commons to express yourself through art and paint rocks that will be displayed at the UCF Pulse Memorial by the Student Union. Supplies will be provided! 

 

5 Years Later: Reflection on Pulse 

Tuesday, 6/8 at 2-3 PM 

Location: Social Justice and Advocacy Lounge (SU 207F) 

Join LGBTQ+ Services and CAPS to discuss how the community has grieved and grown stronger since the Pulse Tragedy. 

 

We All Have One Pulse – Blood Drive 

Wednesday, 6/9 at 9 AM-6 PM 

Location: Student Union 

In Remembrance of the Pulse Nightclub Shooting, we invite you to honor the victims and their families by donating blood on the Big Red Bus. Help us maintain a safe and ready blood supply for cancer patients, trauma patients or for when unexpected tragedies occur. 

 

49 Letters of Love 

Wednesday, 6/9 at 2-4 PM 

Location: UnionWest 2nd floor lobby 

Join Downtown Student Life in an effort to write 49 (or more) letters of love and support that will be sent to individuals going through a tough time. Students will be able to draw pictures and write encouraging messages to one or multiple individuals. This event will take place on Wednesday, June 9th from 2-4 pm in the Student Success and Engagement Lobby (UnionWest 2nd Floor). 

 

UCF/CAPS Remembers Pulse 

Thursday, 6/10 at 1-2 PM 

Location: Virtual  

CAPS workshops are designed to address common concerns and help students develop skills that can enhance their well-being and reduce their stress. This workshop is dedicated to Pulse.  

 

UCF Remembers Pulse Vigil 

Thursday, 6/10 at 7-8:30 PM 

Location: Student Union Pegasus Ballroom 

UCF Remembers will honor the 49 lives taken at Pulse and celebrate the diversity and equality that unite us all. The event will have speakers from UCF students, staff and Orlando community members, as well as a reading of the names of the 49 victims.

In 2016, the city of Orlando was changed forever by the shooting at Pulse nightclub. The loss of 49 souls from the LGBT and LatinX communities reverberated around the world. JD Casto a professional photographer, would go on to capture thousands of images in the weeks and months to come, experiencing events like no other person. Inhala Exhala’ – New Moon Yoga for Pulse Remembrance (5 Years After)

Thursday, 6/10 at 6-8 PM

Location: In-person at The Center.

An event created to gather community members to practice restorative yoga as a way of channeling intentions. Five years after the Pulse tragedy, we pause to acknowledge our emotions and sow seeds of hope and transformation. Check it out here! and IG live via @qlatinx.

National Moment of Silence for 49 seconds. Presented by The Coalition For Pulse: 5 Years Later. 

 

Five-Year Pulse Remembrance Ceremony

Saturday, 6/12 at 7-8 PM

Location: Exploria Stadium.
