While we do all that we can to support the healthiest habits in the halls, residents must take personal responsibility for their spaces. This page provides some tips to keep your space clean and healthy.

Room Inspections

Residence Life staff conduct health and safety inspections once each semester to help keep your community safe and healthy.

  • You’ll get advance notice at least 24 hours before the inspection.
  • Staff will not open closed closets, drawers, refrigerators, or luggage during an inspection.
  • If you believe an inspection was done incorrectly, contact your Coordinator of Residence Life and Education.

Common Violations

  • Health and Safety
  • Alcohol and substances
  • Community and behavior
  • Property and facilities

Keeping Your Space Healthy

You’re responsible for maintaining cleanliness in your room. To help keep your space healthy follow these simple tips:

  • Report any leaks or water problems right away — submit a work order.
  • Keep wet clothes sealed in plastic bags or containers until they’re dry.
  • Do laundry regularly
    • Dry wet shoes and hats before storing.
  • Dry all personal belongings within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth.
  • Keep bathroom doors closed — bathroom vents help remove moisture.
  • Keep wet towels in the bathroom to dry them and keep moisture from migrating into the bedroom.
  • Set the thermostat set on ‘AUTO’.
  • Don’t prop vents or open windows to try to control temperature — this can increase moisture.
  • In warmer temperatures, keep the windows closed. Open windows allow moisture levels to rise, condensation to form and mold to grow in your room.

If you observe mold present in your room, report it immediately via a work order.

These precautions help prevent mold growth in humid conditions like Florida’s.
