Finals week is upon us! Whether it’s your first finals week or last, finding a study spot on campus that works for you plays a big part in a successful study session. Now that I am entering my last semester here at UCF, I can confidently say I’ve figured out the vibe of some spots on campus that work for every kind of study style.

The most obvious study spot on campus is the library, but do you really know the breakdown of John C. Hitt? The first floor (basement level) and second floor (first floor when you walk in) are both pretty loud floors that are mainly for collaborative and social studying. If you’re doing group study or meeting friends for a session and like to talk these are the best to do so. Same with the third floor, however, it is more of a moderate noise level compared to the first two floors. My friend once told me she likes to study on the first floor because when it’s too quiet the smallest noise will distract her. So, if this sounds like your kind of environment, check it out!

The fourth and fifth floors of the library are strict silent study. The fourth floor is more accepting of whispering and more quiet noise levels; however, the fifth floor is strict silence. In my experience, I’ve always loved the fourth floor. If I need to go deep into studying, I’ll find a cubby either behind the bookshelves along the wall or the new couch booths are great too. Pro tip: try to find a spot by an outlet and a window. Sometimes you need to be reminded of the outside world when you’re deep in it.

All Knight Study is also a great spot on campus to go to. They offer free printing and have a lot of great collaborative study booths, tables, whiteboards and fun chairs for students.  However, I would check out their hours online, as they tend to change frequently. They also offer free scantrons.

The Student Union is also a great place to go study at, if you’re looking in the right places. For instance, on the second and third floors if you go into the conference room hallway and just walk around the loop, you can find a bunch of secluded chairs and tables. These are available to anyone. I would personally recommend the third floor for studying, as the second and first floors are very social. Again, whatever suits your style.

Some more nontraditional spots on campus that I’ve enjoyed for a bit of scenery change or some light studying, are the on-campus coffee shops. The Foxtail in the bookstore has a great ambiance and plenty of spaces for people to study. You have direct access to a variety of snacks, drinks and of course, caffeine. The Starbucks on Memory Mall is my personal favorite for in between classes and/or exams, because if you’re lucky enough to get a spot at the table along the main window – you have a prime spot for people watching when you need to take a small study break. Memory Mall is by far the best spot on campus for people watching.

Speaking of Memory Mall, this study spot might be untraditional, but – it’s one of the most relaxing places to study on campus. If you have the means, buy yourself a hammock and hammock in the trees at the beginning of memory mall. I got my hammock for a decent price on Amazon, and its great quality. Hammocking is just a fun way to relax and catch up on some reading. I like to bring my textbooks with me to Memory Mall so that I can read them and hammock. A lot of the stress and anxiety I get just thinking about having to read textbook chapters is alleviated when I read this way. It’s also comforting to be amongst my fellow ‘hammockers’, it’s quite the community!

All in all, UCF is filled with study spots all over campus. If you start looking for them, you are sure to find a new place to study wherever you are on campus. Being able to find spots that suit your mood and motivation can really help alleviate the stress of finals. Trust me, I hate studying just as much as the next person, but prioritizing going to my favorite spots on campus makes it an enjoyable experience.

Good luck Knights! Remember to take a deep breath and schedule breaks/relaxation time into your study schedule. You’re almost at the finish line!
