What is the plan for Summer B and year-round housing contracts?

UCF has announced that classes will be held remotely for summer sessions A, B, C, and D. Because of this decision, summer housing will be extremely limited. Please note that Summer 2020 rent has not been billed and will not be billed unless an exemption is granted for housing residents remaining in the Apollo, Libra, Hercules, Nike, Lake Claire, Neptune, Towers at Knights Plaza, and Rosen Apartments.

Will UCF Housing be open to students in the fall?

UCF Housing will be open to students in the fall, and all residents will be required to sign a housing agreement addendum acknowledging the risks associated with COVID-19.

Will there be changes to UCF Housing because of COVID-19?

Yes, UCF Housing plans to implement the following changes this fall because of COVID-19.

Reduced Occupancy
Based on guidance from public health officials, UCF Housing will move to reduced occupancy for 2020-2021. The Towers at Knights Plaza, NorthView, Rosen Apartments, and UnionWest will remain at regular occupancy. Four hundred fifty shared bedrooms in suites in the Nike, Hercules and Libra communities will be converted to single rooms for reduced occupancy.

Space and Amenity Restrictions
UCF may restrict the full use of spaces and amenities within the residential community including, but not limited to:

    • No guests or visitors, at any time, including overnight, are permitted.
    • Access to residential spaces is restricted to residential students, UCF staff and approved vendors.
    • Residents may only enter the residential building to which they are assigned unless otherwise posted (i.e., to access services such as mailroom, laundry, or staff offices).
    • Residents may only have one other building resident as a guest in their assigned room.
    • Access to and use of community amenities/space may be restricted or limited in capacity (community space, offices, lounges, kitchen, laundry rooms, elevators, etc.).

When can I select my room assignment?

Online room selection will take place throughout June and July on a modified timeline. General timeframes are below, but it is important to note that adjustments may be necessary, so students should pay close attention to their email for instructions and exact dates.

  • Rosen: June 11-15
  • Towers: June 16-22
  • NorthView: June 16-22
  • UnionWest: Late June/Early July
  • Apollo, Libra, Hercules, Nike, Lake Claire and Neptune: Early July

When will students be permitted to move in?

UCF Housing is developing a phased move-in plan that is in accordance with physical distancing guidelines. Move-in will start August 8, with appointments being limited by floor and/or community to reduce physical interactions. Move-in appointments will be made via the Housing Portal in late July/early August.

Residents should expect a mostly virtual move-in process, with no more than two guests permitted. Additional information regarding move-in appointment sign-up and procedures will be communicated to residents via email.

What precautionary measures will UCF Housing take?

Consistent with other return to campus plans, there will be increased cleaning and disinfecting and wellness dividers as appropriate. Requirements such as physical distancing and face coverings in common areas will be required. Residents may be required to be tested for COVID-19 and comply with symptom checking.

It will be incumbent on residents to be mindful of their personal behaviors and accept responsibility for doing their part to keep themselves, their roommate(s) and other safe. Everyone will need to tackle some personal inconveniences, take personal responsibility and adopt the health measures necessary to promote a culture of health and well-being.

Will I be permitted to stay in UCF Housing if I fall ill?

Students should have a plan for the possibility they may test positive for COVID-19. Residents will be required to isolate up to 14 days or until they receive medical clearance to return to their housing assignment.

All residents must disclose to Student Health Services immediately upon notification of positive COVID-19 test status or contact from Florida Department of Health about exposure and instruction to isolate.

UCF Housing and Residence Life has designated a limited number of spaces in Academic Year communities, Towers at Knights Plaza, NorthView, UnionWest and Rosen for UCF Housing residents who fall ill and are unable to travel to their permanent residence to isolate.

Can UCF help students get out of their off-campus, UCF-affiliated housing leases? These students can’t be here now, and can’t afford the leases because of losing their jobs.

UCF is advocating on behalf of our students who reside off campus. Ultimately, any decisions about refunds will be up to individual off-campus properties and management companies.

Will UnionWest or NorthView residents be billed for rent?

Residents who return for the summer will be responsible for summer rent payment. The original due date was May 22, but given these special circumstances, UCF will extend the deadline to June 5. A deferment will be placed on your account.

If you are not returning for the summer and need continued relief and flexibility because of COVID-19, you can apply for UCF’s Managed Housing Summer Support Program, which will defer the billing of your summer rent and credit your account with funds you can use to pay your summer rent. UCF Housing will soon share more details about this process and how to apply. At this time, this option is only available to UCF students who are not living in these residences this summer. This is the only opportunity for this support; it will not extend into additional semesters should UCF’s period of remote instruction continue beyond the summer.
