E-Scooters on Campus Provide Sustainable Convenience

A greener way to get around campus

Beginning this semester, UCF students will have a new way to reduce their carbon footprint and still get around campus quickly: E-scooters.

By using the Spin app, students can now rent from 300 e-scooters, which will only work on the main campus. The Spin E-scooter program includes access for individuals without smartphones, location-sharing features, or credit cards through a program called Spin Access. E-scooters will be located throughout campus, with a total of 12 charging stations.

The UCF main campus is large, and students who drive from one parking lot to another contribute a lot of greenhouse gasses to the environment. The University of Central Florida is committed to reaching carbon neutrality by the year 2050, and the use of transportation plays a huge part in that. UCF students have several greener transportation options to get around campus, including SGA’s free bike share program and the Pegasus Express on-campus shuttles.

On-campus residents are encouraged to avoid driving their cars around campus and use other modes of transportation, especially on weekdays. To avoid parking citations, residents should leave their vehicles in their assigned residential lots between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays.
