Kayla McEwan is a Housing Ambassador who has shown a passion for UCF’s ROTC program ever since she joined in Fall 2018. This Armed Forces Day, McEwan shares how UCF is helping her reach her military goals.

McEwan’s Armed Forces journey began in the eighth grade when she joined JROTC, and continued through her junior year of high school. She knew at an early age that she wanted to join the military and ultimately committed to UCF to help achieve this. Now at UCF, she particularly enjoys the bond that all the ROTC members share, stating “We are a family and we take care of each other with the common goal of leaving college as 2nd Lieutenants in the United States Air Force.” With the resources provided by the university and the encouragement from her peers, McEwan’s next goal is to obtain leadership positions and learn more about her leadership style.

McEwan has also sought personal growth in her position with UCF Housing. She enjoys working with her fellow Housing Ambassadors, but also enjoys the way this position has challenged her, stating “Being an HA has helped me in my college journey by pushing me outside of my comfort zone and getting me more comfortable with public speaking.” Regarding McEwan’s work ethic, her supervisor Hayden Lau said “Kayla is a joy to work with and is someone I can always count on! I see how disciplined she is with ROTC, school, and as an HA on our team. It’s been so fun to get to know her over the last year and learn about her career aspirations with the Armed Forces. She will do great things!”

McEwan is a Junior majoring in Business Management. She has loved living in the Towers community since her freshman year. Her favorite part about Towers is the convenience it offers, stating “I love how it’s close to all my classes and everything that the campus has to offer. Go Knights!”
