Hailey Lawson started out her career in Housing and Residence Life back in the Summer of 2019 as a Housing Ambassador (HA). She quickly moved into the role of Marketing Assistant (MA)The Marketing Assistant role is vital to the Housing marketing events at the University of Central Florida. This position primarily serves as a source of help to complete the planning, creation and execution of all marketing efforts for the Housing Department, with a focus on internal partnerships, communications, tours on the main campus and coordination of major university events.

Hailey, a senior in Advertising and Public Relations, found the Marketing Assistant role a good fit for her, stating “My major really helped me make this position my own in that a lot of my experience is in social media marketing. I had the amazing opportunity to work with more of the marketing team like Karen, our Social Media Coordinator, to create social campaigns and fun content! I loved being able to wear different hats in this department and have my opinion and ideas valued by everyone on the team! It also is great in-house marketing experience for me in the future and I’m so thankful that Housing saw this potential in me.

Hailey, who is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, has loved living on campus in Greek Housing, stating I love how close everything is! I love being able to walk to work and my classes. The culture here is fun, too. It’s nice to be so close to the library to study and being so close to all the action. Reflecting on her experience with HousingHailey said, “My favorite part about being the Marketing Assistant in Housing is during orientations and tours when I see how excited prospective students are to be a Knight and live on campus. I love answering the questions of students that are just so excited to be here. An example was one phone call I answered this year where a whole family had me on speakerphone just asking me simple questions about housing and my own experience living here. They were all so kind and excited to be future Knights! It was very sweet.

Social Media Marketing Coordinator, Karen Rodriguez, currently supervises the Marketing Assistant role and said Hailey’s contributions have been so valuable. The great thing about our Marketing Coordinator position is that it molds to whoever is in the role. We love to hone our student employees’ strengths, and for Hailey that meant giving her a bigger part in our online efforts. She stays well attuned to social media trends and is always bringing great ideas for new and trending content to our Housing accounts something that hasn’t been expected of this position in the pastHailey has been such a great asset over the past year, especially with COVID-19 and our shift to primary online events and communications.

As Hailey prepares for graduation, UCF students interested in the duties and responsibilities of Marketing Assistant for the UCF Housing team can apply now! The application is open until Sunday, May 16th at 11:59 p.m. Students can email karen.rodriguez@ucf.edu with any questions.
