For the first time, UCF is hosting a second Homecoming Week in an academic year: Spring Splash. Due to COVID-19, Homecoming Week in Fall 2020 looked much different than previous years. With Spring Splash, the UCF Homecoming Board aims to double the fun while still upholding COVID safety measures.

One beloved Homecoming tradition is the crowning of UCF Homecoming King and Queen. This year, two student leaders from the Department of Housing and Residence Life are in the running for the titleUCF Residence Hall Association Director, Malek Kalai, and Tower III Resident Assistant, Margaret Hall.

Malek Kalai

Malek Kalai

Malek’s involvement with UCF Housing spans back to his freshman year. Prior to his first semester at UCF, he participated in the Housing Leadership Institute, which introduces new residents to the many resources and activities on campus, as well as other residents. Hthen became Marketing Chair of the Libra Area Council where he helped plan educational and entertaining events for Libra residents. Malek is passionate about all things social justice, and his next step was to become Advocacy Chair on the UCF Residence Hall Association (RHA)before ultimately becoming RHA Director. Malek is a third-year student majoring in the Industrial and Organizational track of Psychology and minoring in Theatre.

RHA Advisor, Kaila Kowalski stated, “I have seen Malek grow in his leadership and his UCF pride throughout his time as a Knight. As Director of the Residence Hall Association, Malek serves as the student representative for all on-campus residents and he truly takes this role to heart. He is driven by advocacy and he works to create an environment where all students feel included and at home at UCF. His pride and passion for UCF is evident through all his work. Especially these past few months during COVID-19, Malek has guided his executive board and the entire organization to continue to survive and thrive so our students have the resources to succeed and a community of support and care. Malek’s position on the UCF Homecoming Court showcases an incredible student who will utilize this new platform to continue to inspire a love for UCF and love for self through thousands of others.”
