Veterans Day is Wednesday, November 11th Posted Tuesday, November 10, 2020 @ 11:28 AM In honor of Veterans Day, UCF Housing is highlighting the Veterans Academic Resource Center and all it does for the UCF campus and students. The Veterans Academic Resource Center (VARC) supports student veterans as they transition from military to student life. They are an excellent resource for veterans and their dependents and offer services for all types of student help. They are a unit of the Registrar’s Office, Career Services, the Counseling Center, Student Academic Resource Center, Student Disabilities Services, and Transfer and Transition Services. They are celebrating 10 years of helping students this year, so be sure to check out the VARC website for more information on all they do. Throughout November, the VARC is hosting several events to honor our veterans. Veterans Month activities kick off with the annual Flag Week, in which About 1,400 U.S. flags are planted on Memory Mall in front of the Veterans Memorial beginning Monday, November 9th. Flags will be on display until Friday, November 13th. Each flag represents a student veteran attending the University of Central Florida for the Fall 2020 semester. Throughout the month, the VARC will also spotlight Veteran students, faculty, and staff members on the VARC website. If you are a veteran at UCF and would like to be part of the Spotlight, please contact JJ Johnson at Joshua.Johnson@ucf.edu. November activities continue with a free student veteran career workshop taking place Friday, November 13th. To learn more and register, click here. Students needing enrollment certification can begin submitting Spring 2021 certifications on Monday, November 16th. Additionally, student veterans are encouraged to use VARC resources free to them, including its four quiet study spaces and lounge space for student veterans and its Veteran Peer Mentors program, in which other veterans assist student veterans with course scheduling and connection to more university and campus resources. Please note that the availability of these resources may be temporarily altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students can follow upcoming events and announcements by liking the UCF Veterans Academic Resource Center Facebook page. This Veterans Day remember to take a moment and honor the men and women who have served our nation. Show your appreciation for the veterans in your life and pass on these resources to a student veteran you know. Have a safe Veterans day, Knights! Back
