Veterans Day is Thursday, November 11th Posted Monday, November 8, 2021 @ 2:35 PM Veterans Day is a day to not only honor our fallen soldiers, but to also recognize our incredible veteran residents and students here at UCF. The transition from military personnel back to private citizens can be a challenging time. However, UCF has various programs and resources to help veteran students succeed. The Veterans Academic Resource Center (VARC) on campus is a great source for all Veteran students’ needs. Their website has a wealth of information on how to go about accessing benefits and community resources that help veteran students in their academic endeavors. Some of these resources include, financial aid for veterans, scholarship opportunities and other on campus programs such as SARC and CAPS. For veterans who may not qualify for any benefits, VARC offers a program called Soldiers to Scholars. This program requires veterans to volunteer at the center for at least 7-10 hours a week, in exchange for free tuition and fees. The website states, “Earn your college degree by mentoring inner-city youth within the Metro West Community in Orlando, Florida. As a veteran, you have the skills to serve as a role model and have a passion for positive community development.” VARC also offers various workshops that provide tips and tricks for entering college life, such as study hacks and integrating military life into college life. Campus will be closed on Thursday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day. Classes will resume Friday, November 12th. We hope that every veteran resident and student here at UCF knows how grateful we are for their service and sacrifice for our freedom. We wish you all a relaxing Veteran’s Day with family and loved ones! Back
